11/04/19 Swan Lake Fire Story Map

The Swan Lake Fire was reported at 6:52 p.m. on June 5, 2019. The initial report placed this lightning-caused fire approximately eight miles northeast of the community of Sterling, Alaska. More than 3,000 firefighters and support personnel were assigned to the Swan Lake Fire over the course of nearly 150 days. The 2019 Swan Lake Fire Story Map is a comprehensive look at the conditions that led up to the fire, the values that were at risk, the decisions that were made to protect life and property, and what follows after this season-long event on the Kenai Peninsula.

This story map was created through a collaborative effort of interagency partners, and developed by resources assigned to the Swan Lake Fire. This story map is best viewed on a desktop computer using Google Chrome. If viewing on a smartphone or tablet, follow the on-screen instructions to navigate through the story map.
