Current Situation:  The Card Street fire continues to burn into the marshlands and recreation area of Lake Skilak. The acreage estimation has been reduced due to more accurate mapping and is now listed at 7578 acres burned since the wildfire began last Monday. The fire is burning parallel to the Sterling Highway and Lake Skilak.

Driven by westerly winds, the Card Street Fire is being fought at the Lower Skilak Lake campground and areas east of Skilak Loop road. Bulldozers and fire crews will continue to build fireline today joining a myriad of small lakes and roads within the area to try and corral the fire spread. A total of 323 personnel are assigned to the incident including 12 fire crews, 12 fire engines and 3 helicopters.

Firefighters continued cooling off the fire near the homes Southeast of Sterling. The Card Street fire raced through numerous subdivisions Monday and Tuesday, impacting structures in the Kenai Keyes, Feuding Lane and Card Street areas. A total of 11 structures saw fire damage. The evacuation warning has been cancelled for the Northern part of Feuding Lane Road and Card Street areas.
A temporary flight restriction remains over the area as firefighters continue to use heavy air tankers and helicopters carrying retardant and water to slow the fire advance.

Community Meeting: A public meeting will be held on Sunday, June 21 at 2 PM at the Sterling Community Center at the corner of the Sterling Highway and Swanson River Road.

Weather Outlook: Today's weather will see cooler weather today with temperatures near 70 degrees, with continued Westerly winds. The persistent high pressure over Alaska is expected to continue the pattern of sunny and dry weather through the weekend. Smoke hazards will increase downwind as the fire advances. Burning and fireworks bans remain in place for all lands throughout South Central Alaska. Only cooking fires in commercially sold appliances with lids are approved.

Evacuation Information: Evacuation orders have been lifted for Card Street to Zenith property owners. Evacuation was lifted yesterday for subdivisions from the Feuding Lane and Kenai Keyes intersection and NORTH to the Sterling Hwy. Kenai Keyes SOUTH to the Kenai River remains evacuated status. Please use caution when returning to your residence and stay away for fire apparatus and crews that continue to work in the area.

Closures: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has Skilak Loop Road and campgrounds in the vicinity.

Injuries: There have been no injuries.

Cooperating Agencies: Alaska Division of Forestry, Alaska State Troopers, Kenai Peninsula Borough, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
