07/01/19 Campfires Restricted on the Kenai Peninsula

July 1, 2019

CAMPFIRES RESTRICTED TO DEVELOPED CAMPSITES AND CABINS
WITHIN ENCLOSED METAL FIRE GRATES
ON THE KENAI PENINSULA

In response to the current high fire danger on the Kenai Peninsula, effective immediately and until further notice, open campfires are restricted to designated campgrounds or cabins within enclosed metal fire grates or designated fire rings provided at these developed recreational facilities within Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Kenai Fjords National Park, Kenai Peninsula State Parks, and Chugach National Forest lands on the Kenai Peninsula. Use of cooking stoves and gas grills is allowed.

Fire danger remains very high over much of the Kenai Peninsula. Residents and visitors are urged to continue to use extreme caution with anything that could ignite a fire. For statewide fire information, visit the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center website at https://fire.ak.blm.gov/ or http://www.akfireinfo.com.
