March 14, 2020 - Effective Monday, March 16, the Kenai Library and Kenai Senior Center will be closed. The closure for both facilities is scheduled for one week, through March 22. We will evaluate the need to extend this closure as events unfold over the course of next week.
The closures are in support of reducing the spread of the COVID - 19 virus.
The Senior Center staff will continue to provides meals to the seniors of our community that rely on that service, however, meals will no longer be served at the facility. Our staff will be reaching out to seniors over the next several days to explain our new processes. We will assure that the needs of our most vulnerable seniors are met during this closure.
Due dates for borrowed materials will be adjusted accordingly at the Library and book drops will remain available during this closure.
The decision to close these facilities was difficult and we understand that there will be impacts to members of our community, however, in light of the actions of the State and other municipalities around the State, we feel these closures are necessary. It is particularly important that we work together to protect our most vulnerable residents including our senior population and residents with underlying health conditions.
City Hall and other city departments remain open for usual business. Critical departments such as fire and emergency services and dispatch services will continue with regular operations.
Updates on the closure will be available on the City’s website and Facebook page.
