03/26/20 City of Kenai Temporary Suspension of Water and Sewer Penalties and Shut-offs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Kenai Temporary Suspension of Water and Sewer Penalties and Shut-offs

KENAI, AK—Effective immediately, for the billing period of March 2020 through the last billing period in which the City’s Disaster Emergency Declaration is effective, penalty and interest will not accrue on commercial and residential water and sewer service accounts. Further, during the effective period of the City’s Disaster Emergency Declaration, the City will not stop City water and sewer service for non-payment.
The decision to suspend water and sewer penalties and shut-offs was made in coordination with the City of Soldotna as the City of Kenai continues to coordinate with neighboring cities to do our best to serve the public and greater community. In the case of suspending water and sewer penalties and interest, the decision was based on maintaining economic viability for businesses and protecting the health, welfare, and safety of residents. It is in the best interest of the City to maintain water and sewer services for all users during this disaster emergency.
The utility bills for March 2020 have been sent out, and penalty and interest were included on those bills. The penalty and interest amount will be waived and a credit placed on accounts that have been paid for March.
City residents who are able to continue to pay their utility bills on time are encouraged to do so. The lobby at City Hall is closed until further notice; however, payments for City utilities using personal checks or money orders for water and sewer may be made by using the drop box in front of City Hall. No envelopes are required for drop box payments; please ensure the user’s water and sewer account number and/or service address is listed on the check. Customers paying with credit/debit cards and e-checks or bank account transfers may log in to xpressbillpay.com or use the Xpressbillpay phone app. Customers may also contact Xpressbillpay by phone: 1-800- 720-6847.
