03/19/20 All Borough Facilities will be Closed to the Public


All Borough Facilities
Effective March 20, 2020 at 08:00 all borough facilities will be closed to the public until further notice. Employees will still conduct government business under modified work schedules during regular business hours Monday - Friday. Those that can, will work from home while others will come to work and practice the recommended guidance to ensure safe workspaces. You can also find contact information by department at www.kpb.us or call (907) 262-4441 or 800-478-4441 and you will be directed to the requested department.

The Central Peninsula Landfill and transfer sites will continue to remain open to the public. Steps have been put in place for staff and the public’s protection. Please follow directional signage and staff instructions.

Dispatch and Fire/EMS will maintain operations; however, public will not be allowed to enter these facilities. First responders are following guidance specific to call outs. Nikiski Fire Service Area will continue their potable water service to residents with modifications.

Continued Government Business and General Delivery
Residents are asked to use the drop box located by the main front doors of the Borough Administrative Building (BAB) to deposit payments or department-specific documents. You may also consider general mail delivery:

Finance Department
Remember the online option to pay property taxes and special assessments. Follow the directions for online payments at https://www.kpb.us/finance-dept/property-tax-and-collections. Note: All credit card payments made through the Web, Interactive Voice Response Phone System (IVR) or via Credit Card Authorization Form will be assessed a credit card fee by the processing bank of 2.35% and e-check payments will not be assessed a processing fee.

Planning Department
The March 23, 2020 Planning Commission meeting has been cancelled at this time.  Items scheduled for that meeting will be on the April 13, 2020 agenda.  Please note that in accordance with the KPB Office of Emergency Management and CDC guidelines upcoming meetings will be held in a modified format.  The borough building will be closed to the public.  As of the date of this notice, Planning Commissioners will participate via teleconference or video conference. All comments must be submitted in writing to planning@kpb.us. Currently it is anticipated that participation and testimony will occur by phone only. Any changes to the meeting schedule or how testimony can be accepted can be found on the Planning Department website https://www.kpb.us/planning-dept/planning-home or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Kenai.Peninsula.Borough/.

The March 23, 2020 Plat Committee meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m.  in a modified format.  In accordance with the KPB Office of Emergency Management and CDC guidelines the borough building will be closed to the public and committee members. The Plat Committee members will participate telephonically.  We ask at this time that all comments be submitted in writing.  Telephonic participation will also be available. Assessing Administration
Senior Citizen and Disabled Veteran Exemption Applications (Due by March 31)
Application forms are still available online on the Assessing Department website. Blank exemption applications and envelopes will be made available outside of the BAB building as well. Applicants can mail, fax, or scan/email their completed application forms to the Assessing Department or they can drop them off in the BAB drop box by March 31st. Applicants are asked to place forms containing their personal information in a sealed envelope prior to using the drop box at BAB. Any mailed applications must still be postmarked by March 31, 2020.

Personal Property Appeal Period (April 1 thru May 1)
Property owners who wish to discuss the details of their personal property assessment can call the Assessing Department to speak to appraisal staff.

Real Property Appeal (Due by March 31)
Appeal forms are still available online on the Assessing Department website.  Envelopes will be made available outside of the BAB building as well.

Appraisal Department
The Assessing Department will be available to assist any taxpayers via phone. Staff is continuing canvass work in the Nikiski area. You can identify them by their florescent vests, ID and signs on their vehicles. We do not want to alarm the public, but for precautionary measure, our staff may be wearing rubber gloves and/or masks.

At this time, we have put some restrictions in place for our staff. They will not be doing any interior canvass inspections. If a property owner requests an interior, we will make note and contact the owner at a later date. Any property owner that wishes to review file information may do so by visiting the Assessing Department website or calling the Assessing Department. We have also requested the public and staff keep a 6' distance.
