9/13/19 - 7:45 - Swan Lake Fire hazard mitigation video

Swan Lake Fire Division Supervisor Lincoln Chute discusses fuel mitigation efforts underway to protect structures around Cooper Landing in this video. Removing ladder fuels greatly reduces the risk of fire burning on the ground from rising vertically into the trees. Once a fire is in trees it burns with much more intensity and a greater rate of spread creating a much more hazardous situation. Less intense fire behavior is much easier to contain and control, resulting fewer structures destroyed and a safer environment for firefighters to work.
