Sept 27-29th 2:00 PM – Three Day Swan Lake Fire Fact Sheet and Public Information Map

Incident Command: Alaska Type 3 Organization, Zane Brown Incident Commander
Size: 167,164 acres                         Containment: 90%                Personnel: 103

Due to little change in the activity of the fire, this update will reflect multiple days as well as the management plan throughout the weekend. Fire managers feel confident in the work being done around the fire perimeter. Fire crews continue making progress with their repair work on the eastern area of the fire near Resurrection trail. Due to firefighters being flown in to that area verifying that it was void of heat, confirmed the decision to increase containment. Assessment of the fire affected areas continue to provide benefit for the work that is being conducted. With the wind that tested the fires containment lines in previous days, there is little concern for the predicted wind event this weekend to have an impact. There is a scheduled infrared flight for tonight, weather permitting, that can give the team a better idea of where any isolated pockets of heat are to focus on if necessary. The fires Operations Chief and Incident Commander will also conduct a fly over via helicopter for visual observation of the progression of work.

Weekend Weather: Isolated and scattered showers throughout the weekend. Expect cooler temperatures and some fog inversions in the early mornings. There is a possibility of some gusty wind that will come through the fire area on Sunday.

Restrictions/Closures: An area closure remains in effect for all refuge and national forest lands that have been burned. Skilak Lake Road is open to provide access to Lower Skilak, Upper Skilak, and Jim’s Landing boat launches and Bottenintnin Lake. All other recreation facilities in this area including campgrounds, trails, and day-use areas remain closed. Contact the Refuge Visitor Center by calling 907-260-2820 or by clicking www.kenai.fws.gov. Information on these closures is available https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/closures/6387/

Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR): The current TFR that is in place for air space over part of the Swan Lake Fire (9/9687 NOTAM) will be lifted as of 2100 hours on Friday, September 27, 2019.

Homer Electric Association Project: The Homer Electric Association(HEA) completed their project yesterday within their expected timeframe and the removal of the lines was completed without incident.
