8//22/19 3:30 pm Sterling Highway Update

The Sterling Highway is still open.  You will notice more smoke in Soldotna, Kenai and Homer today because the winds has switched, blowing from the East, which should give Cooper Landing and Seward a break from smoke. It may switch back and blow from the west by Friday.

Work on the Swan Lake Fire, according to fire operations.  Five more crews have arrived and the dozer line down the west perimeter has been completed. That line was put in to reduce the chances of the fire moving west toward Sterling. While Sterling is at Level 1 READY, the next two levels SET and GO have not been determined but the team and OEM are working to complete them.  While the fire is burning on the east, it has't moved much toward Cooper Landing.
