Although the photo here is from several days ago, heavy smoke continues to impact air operations on the fire. Currently, helicopters are unable to fly on the eastern flank of the fire in the Resurrection Trail area. This does not mean that air resources are not being utilized. An unmanned air vehicle, or drone, is currently being used on the south central area of the fire, above Skilak Lake. The drone is being used to assess the effectiveness of yesterday's burnout operations in this area. Fire managers wanted to use fire as a tool to bolster structure protection in the area.
