8/30/19 2:00 pm Sterling Highway Update

The Sterling Highway remains open at this time. Traffic is still moving with the escort of a pilot car but drivers should plan for varying wait times of 40 minutes to several hours. Heavier traffic is anticipated over the holiday weekend.
Remember that conditions can change at anytime so be prepared with food and water. Updated information can always be found on this blog or on KBP Alerts Facebook Page.
The following photos show conditions along the highway around 6:00 PM last night.

Traffic has been flowing relatively smoothly between MP 40 and MP 71. Waits have been 40 minutes to an hour

There are large areas within the fire that are burned, others that are not burned at all and some that are lightly burned. There are many trees laying on the ground that are still green, most of which were burned at the roots and merely fell over. Photo: Jeff Pfile
