8/22/19 3:55 pm Swan Lake Fire Afternoon Update

The Great Basin Incident Management Team reports clear air in Cooper Landing today.  That's great news for residents and visitors and it also allows aviation assets to be used, They have been hampered from flying in recent days because of heavy smoke and wind.

Today, helicopters were dropping water on an area south of the Kenai River, and west of Cooper Landing. Yesterday, crews attempted to get across the Kenai River but had some issues, however, those crews did get across today to work on a small area on the very southeast corner of the fire south of the Kenai River. Those firefighters will be working to establish some line to stop the fire's spread to the east, south of the Kenai River. Helicopters are also supporting that effort.
