9/1/19 5:00 PM Winds are creating hazards along the Sterling Highway

Winds are gusty today along the Sterling Highway and are predicted to continue blowing through tomorrow. In many areas adjacent to the highway, the fire burned very hot resulting in trees weakened by fire damage. Due to the winds, trees continue to fall in and along the road creating hazardous driving conditions. The pilot car escorts will remain in place until the wind event stops even though fire activity is low at the moment. If you travel on the highway, please use caution and observe the direction of the pilot car drivers. Conditions are still dynamic and can change quickly.
