Last section of Kenai River to reopen to boaters Saturday 9/21/2019

Last section of Kenai River to reopen to boaters

The last section of the Kenai River closed during the Swan Lake fire will reopen for boating on Saturday, September 21, 2019. The southern channel of the Kenai River between River Mile 69.5 and 71.5 had been closed to support firefighting efforts, but recent rain and suppression efforts will allow this section of river to reopen at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow.

All state and federal boat ramps on the Kenai River and Skilak Lake and Skilak Road are now open. However, no campgrounds or trails within or adjacent to the Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area are open.  Although fire danger has decreased over much of the Kenai Peninsula, residents and visitors should remain aware and prepared. For statewide fire information, visit the AICC website at https://fire.ak.blm.gov/ or http://www.akfireinfo.com.
