Boat Launches off of Skilak Lake Road Open, Campgrounds Remain Closed

Restrictions/Closures: An area closure remains in effect for all refuge and national forest lands that have been burned. Skilak Lake Road is open to provide access to Lower Skilak, Upper Skilak, and Jim’s Landing boat launches and Bottenintnin Lake. All other recreation facilities in this area including campgrounds, trails, and day-use areas remain closed.

The last section of the Kenai River closed during the Swan Lake fire reopened for boating on Saturday, September 21, 2019. The southern channel of the Kenai River between River Mile 69.5 and 71.5 had been closed to support firefighting efforts, but recent rain and suppression efforts have allowed this section of river to be reopened.
