08/25/19 2:20 pm THE STERLING HIGHWAY Update - STILL CLOSED

The Swan Lake Fire is making a push along the south side of the Sterling Highway, around the west side of Hidden Lake. There is no threat toward Sterling, Kenai Keys or Cooper Landing at this time. A specialized group that conducts burn out operations have begun working along the highway.

The smoke is very dense and the pilot cars are not able to drive through so traffic remains stopped for now.

It's hoped that the delay is temporary but it could be significant, so please be prepared with water and food. When you do move, be courteous, drive with headlights on, do not block private driveways, and watch for fire equipment.
