8/21/19 5:30 pm Sterling Highway Update - STILL CLOSED

The highway remains closed with no definite plan for when it will open. Engines and crews are working on both sides of the highway (about 12 miles W of Cooper Landing). They are being supported by helicopters doing bucket drops next to the highway. There is an area along the highway (about a mile long) that has dense smoke. There is smoke in Cooper Landing as well, but not as bad.
