08/26/19 5:00PM Homer Electric Association, Inc. (HEA) - Status of Transmission Lines

The Transmission lines along the Sterling highway, in the vicinity of fire operations, have been de-energized since August 18, 2019 per the request of the inter-agency Incident Management Team overseeing the Swan Lake Fire.  The power lines along the Sterling Highway remain de-energized so fire crews can safely work in and around these power lines. We have reports of trees that have fallen into lines as a result of fire activity, no member’s power will be affected since these power lines are de-energized.  Homer Electric Association, Inc. (HEA) continues to collaborate daily with the fire management team. This transmission line will remain de-energized until HEA is allowed to safely evaluate these lines for damage by the Incident Management Team. Motorists along the Sterling Highway are reminded to never approach a power line that may be on or near the ground in the vicinity of the highway.
