8/26/19 11:10 pm SWAN LAKE FIRE UPDATE

The Swan Lake Fire has calmed considerably now that it's dark and gotten cooler. Flame lengths are under two feet. Cooper Landing is not immediately threatened but will remain at Level 2 SET until conditions can be assessed tomorrow when similar weather conditions are expected.

The fire has moved into the Slaughter Creek and Shaft Creek drainages across the Resurrection Pass Trail. Helicopters dropped water all afternoon. 160 firefighters will remain spiked out (camping) overnight in Cooper Landing available at any time to defend the town.

Travel on the highway will remain open all night from milepost 71 to milepost 26 (at the Seward Highway) with pilot cars. Shelters are open at Soldotna Sports Center and Seward High School. Centennial and Swiftwater Campgrounds are also open.

THIS WILL BE OUR LAST POST FOR THE NIGHT UNLESS CONDITIONS CHANGE.
