8/28/19 11:30 am Sterling Highway Update - checkpoint moved

The eastern most checkpoint on the Sterling Highway for traffic coming toward Soldotna from Seward or Anchorage, has been moved from the Sterling Highway and Seward Highway intersection at mp 36, to milepost 40.

There are still pilot cars taking vehicles on one lane through the fire area, but moving the checkpoint will reduce the turnaround time for the pilot cars.

There will still be waits of 3 or 4 hours so please plan ahead and bring water and food.  Drive with headlights on at all time and be cautious around firefighting equipment.
