8.28.19 - 4:50 pm - Swan Lake Fire Operational Update
This afternoon, winds shifted from the east towards the west, which has socked in Cooper Landing with smoke. Due to this heavy smoke, fire managers are currently unable to fly aircraft. Firefighters on the ground continue to take action to strengthen firelines and take action to protect structures in the Cooper Landing area. Firefighters are continuing making progress on the western flank of the fire towards the Sterling area.
As a reminder, there is a community meeting at the Cooper Landing School at 6:00 pm this evening. The meeting is planned to be broadcasted on the radio via KSRM 920 AM on the Facebook at KPB Alerts and Alaska DNR – Division of Forestry.
