08/14/2019 Swan Lake Fire Google Overflight

Fire managers produced a narrated video showing the growth of the Swan Lake Fire, which started by lighting strike on June 5, 2019, through the end of the August 11th burn period.  Using Google Earth technology, viewers can watch the fire respond to record temperatures, extreme fire weather and fire management actions.

Current fire activity from the interior of the Swan Lake Fire and from areas on the fire's eastern perimeter have been showing more smoke than over the past week.  Photos provided by the firefighters show these smoke columns above Upper Jean Lake, visible between mile 65 and 75 on the Sterling Highway.

Helicopter water drops are being used to cool areas of the fire along the steep slope where risk to ground crew safety is very high.
