The Sterling Highway will reopen at 12:00 pm today (8/19/2019). Traffic will be allowed to pass in both directions; however due to the ongoing fire activity, no stopping along the highway will be allowed. Conditions along the highway may continue to be smoky. Have a flight to catch, already missed it yesterday.

  7. I live on Caribou Island on Skilak Lake and my truck and boat trailer are in the lower landing parking lot. I was advised not to leave the island and notice that the map of the fire has the lower landing as actively burning. I was just there this morning and there was no fire within a half mile....has this changed since about 9:00 this morning?

  8. It's 12;00 pm already. Has the road be opened yet, have they allowed traffic to pass?

    1. The road is open with both lanes of traffic going through. We expect there to be some delays as there is moderate smoke and long lines of traffic attempting to travel in both directions. There is heavy Alaska State Trooper presence to help direct traffic. For any further questions please contact us at (907) 262-4636. Thank you.
