The Sterling Highway opened at noon to traffic going both ways with NO PILOT CARS. Be aware, however, that there were many people waiting in line already when it opened and many trying to get to Anchorage so traffic will be very bad.
911 Dispatch is reporting moderate smoke on the highway and a heavy presence of Alaska State Troopers to keep traffic moving safely. Please be patient and if you can wait until later in the day to travel, please do.
Just got back to Anchorage safely and traffic was very very heavy. Thank you to the firefighters and troopers who made it possible. It was like driving through the gates of hell.
